Renata Carvalho Barreto is an artist and historian Her work as an experimental filmmaker concerns the rewriting of the audiovisual archive, with emphasis in Latin American and African records. As a historian, she reflects upon the fabrications of power that permit the existence of a hegemonic historiography. Framed by Decolonial praxis, Africana theory, critical race theory and theory of history, her film practice is poetic and experimental, although critical and engaged. She holds a BA in History (University of Brasília/Brasil) and a MFA in Film, Video, Animation and New Genres (University of Wisconsin Milwaukee). She is a PhD candidate in the Department of Critical Media Practices at the University of Colorado Boulder.  /  Renata Carvalho Barreto é artista e historiadora. Possui bacharelado em História (Universidade de Brasília) e Mestrado em Belas Artes em Filme, Vídeo, Animação e Novos Gêneros (University of Wisconsin Milwaukee). Ela é atualmente uma estudante de doutorado do segundo ano no Colégio de Mídia, Comunicação e Informação da Universidade do Colorado em  Boulder.
